2014 Wash into Renewal - mindful meditations by R. Califa

Refreshment, Renewal and Revival!

Happy New Year avid readers, site-bys and devotees of this blog. This working blog gives but a glimpse into the rich tapestry of works, happenings and monumental movements taking place in my own backyard, through a medium-ship of Dance, Culture and powerful artistic dynamics. Travels of cultural engagement, deep study exchange with Elders and peers along with Ancestral unearthings have compelled me to further investigate the wellness of our kinship communities, pondering:
How and What type of methods or findings do we share with one another amongst our kinship communities about Wellness? To fellow Cultural Arts leadership that take "barometer readings" on the sustainability of African Dance and Drum Culture, I implore your wisdom and feedback to answer these questions that have come to mind...
  • HOW DO WE TRANSCEND OUR WORKS INTO PLATFORMS OF PRESERVATION?
  • ARE THERE  FORMAL MEASURES IN PLACE TO TRAIN UP GENERATION NEXT?
  • WHAT ARE SOME OF THE DECORUM/PROTOCOL THAT BREEDS HEALTHY EXCHANGE AMONGST US?
  • AND WHAT RITUAL CYCLES OF REGENERATION EXIST THAT KEEP US THRIVING?
#Dancestory2013: The Love of my Life works
The transcendental wisdoms of Ancient African traditions are at the nucleus of my core beliefs, whose principles have serve as basic tenets for sacred traditions and religious beliefs the world over. What resonates for me coming into this year, is the repeating mantra to Do what YOU love and be Loved rite! [sic] The heart is a working muscle. Its very fabric includes fibrous matter encoded with vestiges of historical connections, absorbing what we put into it and manages to bear what we don't. The heart also serves as our emotional barometer awakening us to our Aha! moment. So, it becomes important to keep it vital and supple, as self-preservation is also an important sacred rite.

Moving in alignment with cosmic rhythm cycles, participating and reflecting genuine exchanges of interdependent dynamics invokes healthier cycles of relationship-building. I add to that, "Spiritual proficiency yields Spiritual potency, leading to more progressive movements."

That from which I come, inspires me daily to build, to teach and #GIVE guided for generations NOW and NEXT, while honoring those BEFORE. Amidst an information age encompassing a milieu of networks, electronics and technology, can enhance and often eclipse optimum moments for communication exchange. From my own professional challenges and triumphs in this field, I'd highly encourage all of us to stay connected to the divine source - it does a mind, body and Spirit WELL and GOOD.

Imparting this final note in shared favor:

" I ENVISION that for all my kinship African Dance, Drum, Cultural communities, a yearly Summit re-convening of the Knowledge Keepers,  Master Teachers aligned,  Seasonal Communal rites, ritual celebrations and Ancestral atonement be re-installed; that
WE ENVISION HIGHER a School/Institution/Temple propitiating these traditions that educate, train, empower and heal
- to be erected in Oakland, CA USA."
